A Healthy Mindframe on - CHEATS - TREATS - REWARDS -

Hello there, welcome back!
~
Today I wanted to share with you my thought process on a healthy way of thinking about a few different things.
Slightly random and odd I know but this is something that has really helped me in terms of having a healthy frame of mind when it comes to living a balanced life. As I mentioned in a previous post (HEALTHY LIVING) I truly believe that to have a healthy body it all starts within. This includes the way you think about things, most importantly the way you think about yourself and the relationship you have with eating healthy and exercise.
~

~
So today I want to talk about the three words above. I think they are all extremely different, and the way you think about each one should be positive and effect your healthy living in a good way. When I first stared thinking about this (whilst I was running - see told you I get into wired thought processes when I run alone haha) because I think so many people in the 'fit' world mix the meanings behind each of these up (in terms of health and fitness).

Cheat - what does that mean exactly? To cheat yourself out of something? To do something that seems wrong? To maybe do something or get to a certain point in a way that isn't the most honest? This is what comes to mind for me.
The interwebs defines cheat as: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage. So why would you decide to use this word to describe a meal to yourself? Why do people say they have 'cheat meals' or 'cheat days' - I honestly think that this way of thinking is destructive when it comes to eating healthy and working out. If you truly want to be fit and healthy and happy why would you 'cheat' on that? Shouldn't it be about living a wholesome, balanced life. You don't have 'cheat days' where you allow yourself to be rude to everyone you interact with do you? That sounds crazy doesn't it?! That's how I view the whole 'cheat meal' thing. I don't think it is helpful for your frame of mind to view food like that whatsoever!
~
Treat - what do you think of when you think treat? Something your getting that is special? Something that doesn't happen often? Treat is defined as:
an event or item that is out of the ordinary and gives great pleasure. Doesn't that seem like a much better way to view having a meal that you maybe don't eat every single day?

Reward - ahhh to reward yourself, reward for an achievement. Defined as: a thing given in recognition of service, effort, or achievement. A perfect thing to do to recognise the effort you are making in turning your life into a long, happy and healthy one. Rewards are something that I believe is vital in ensuring to continue with healthy living. It is something I do often for goals I set myself; like running 5km without stopping, entering my first 5km race, running 10km without stopping, performing a month long abs challenge and so on.
However, I don't think that food should be connected to achievements when it comes to workouts. If you do an amazing run and feel incredible after and then reward yourself with doughnuts or chocolate or pizza your then going to associate exercise with not so great eating, or every time you do an awesome workout you'll immediately think of food! Rewards should be things you gift yourself to say 'hey well done, your making goals and then reaching them'

My favourite reward is always always fitness gear! Its like fuelling a fire haha! The more goals I set and conquer, the more workout clothes I have, the more I then feel motivated to workout, the more goals I set myself..... its a never ending cycle that keeps me motivated, healthy and happy!

Lorna Jane clothing is by far my favourite reward - which you can find HERE but you can always reward yourself with other things; a bubble bath, a facial or massage, painting your nails, an afternoon of no jobs or tasks, a weekend away .... the options are endless!

I think you should treat yourself when you feel like it, not because of anything to do with fitness. I think you should reward yourself with NON food things whenever you reach a fitness goal you've set for yourself and I don't think you should EVER cheat on your mind or body.
~
Getting these three words sorted into specific meanings for myself has helped me a great deal in how I view food, healthy eating and happy living. May seem simple or basic, but the way you allow yourself to view things essentially defines you.
What are you thoughts on this, I'd love to know!
Have a great day!

Adorning in April #15: Fluro Fitness Obsessed

Hi all, welcome back!
Today I wanted to share with you an obsession that I am just not kicking anytime soon -
fluro active wear.
I am literally obsessed, the brighter, bolder, more out there in colour; is direct correspondence to how badly I want it!
Fluro was a trend that was happening last summer in clothing, fashion and fitness alike, whilst I think it may be on the way out fashion wise; it is for sure still alive and well in the workout world
(at least it certainly is for me haha).
I wanted to share with you today my current favourite fluro workout outfit. Fair warning there are a lot of photos! I had fun with this mucking around jumping and running that I ended up getting a mini workout in! tehehe.
The  LJ tights are by far the brightest (even brighter in person) and they were a gift from my bf last week for our anniversary (I know, I've got myself a keeper!). The crop is from Lorna Jane also and the tee is Forever21. Paired with bright socks from Russell and my much loved Asics Runners this outfit is motivation in itself! Having bright fun workout wear honestly is half the motivation I need to get up and go each day. I hope you enjoy the post, what is your favourite items to workout in?

I hope you enjoyed this workout OOTD, I find the most effective way to get a great workout in is to be comfortable, happy and motivated in what your wearing! If you know that what you've got on isn't going to budge, is holding everything in place and performs it's functions as it says (i.e., climate-light) then adding in brightness brings the fun into a workout!
~
My number one workout tip: don't forget to have fun with it! Working out doesn't have to be a pain or a drag, if you bring a positive frame of mind to it and play like you did as a kid you'll find the time passes so quickly!

Adorning in April #10: Motivational Mail

Hi there, how has your day been?
I have had a long and busy one and now I am exhausted!
So I thought it would be nice to send out a little motivation mail to you all (and myself) in the hopes it perks you and me right up for tomorrow (which is Friday so it surly can't be too hard!)
~
I hope your all well and enjoy these images as much as me; sometimes I find it great to get a bit of visualisation motivation before I hit the hay to help me sleep better, dream bigger and prepare myself for the day ahead with a positive attitude and an intent to get things done such as thinking happy and getting those workouts in!

What I Wore: Running

Hello there! Happy New Year to you! I am finally back feeling like myself - aka not a sick mess spending all day moaning in bed.
So to welcome in the new year I have a fitness related post for you. I'm sure many, just like me when thinking about the things they want to change, improve, start and try for a new year always have some sort of 'fitness regime' added to the list.
I am actually grateful that this was my resolution at the start of 2013 and I am still going strong! 2013 was the year I gave myself some kindness and allowed time to make a change, not a week like I have been known to do in the past!
This spurred on a year long health kick which has totally changed my life / lifestyle. I am happy to say I now love working out and the endorphin's it brings, eating healthy is now second nature to me and my body is so use to fresh fruit and veg that I don't often crave anything else!
So of course, giving myself a year to become a healthy human has meant I've rewarded every effort to myself in the form of workout clothes - I mean is there really any better motivation?
This year I will be sharing my fitness and health side of life a bit more, I'm starting to feel like it all makes sense to me so I want to share that knowledge with you all too!
So for today I've got an outfit of the day post for a workout outfit that is perfect for running (and actually what I wore that morning on my run so excuse the sweaty face!)

Any loose tank top is perfect to run in. Just something that is comfortable to you, doesn't get in the way and doesn't rub are the criteria here. I often enjoy a cheeky slogan tank - I dont know why but they please me immensely.
Side note: I was wearing my bright pink kiss my abs tank the other day out running and I was smiling at everyone I passed like I always do but no one was smiling back! Mustn't been too impressed with my bleary tank!

I am a runner who requires music, I find it exponentially harder without it! I use this LJ one and its perfect, has a spot to put the headphones through and doesnt budge the entire time. I also stick my phone in there too so I can snap photos and track my pace and time.

I will often workout in a hat, especially if it is sunny, its a great way to get all of those pesky little hairs out of the way. A trick I like to do when I have nice straight clean hair and dont wish to wash it on a daily basis is to place my hair through the gap at the back of the hat but not use a hair tie. That way I have it up and out of the way, but I dont end up with a huge kink running through it from a hair tie!

These LJ shorts are so FLURO! I love them, I am a big lover of bright workout clothes - may as well make it as fun as possible right!? I had to saturate this photo so much to have the Lorna Jane writing visible.

Hehehe, I had a cat friend for a few weeks which was lovely!

I wish everyone would let me be; let me have fun on my own. I'm so sick of people telling me what's fun and what's not. So what if I would rather have a girls night in than go to a frat party? They're not fun unless you're drunk too, which I will NOT do.
